You do not need to understand the entire Family Wellness framework before taking a useful first step.
What is Family Wellness?
Family wellness is not the absence of problems. It is the developing capacity of individuals and family relationships to function, connect, adapt, care and grow in ways that support the wellbeing of the people within the family.
The aim is not to decide whether your family is simply “good” or “bad.” It is to become more curious about what is happening.
Four Things to Notice
Strengths
What is already helping your family?
Strain
Where are people or relationships carrying pressure?
Patterns and Context
What keeps happening—and what surrounding pressures may matter?
Different Perspectives
Do family members experience the same family differently?
One person’s reflection represents one perspective, not a complete objective verdict on the family.
Safety Before Ordinary Strategy
Before choosing a worksheet or trying to improve communication, ask whether safety is the more important concern.
Where there is abuse, violence, coercive control, serious intimidation or another significant safety concern, ordinary family-improvement tools may not be the appropriate first response.

One Next Responsible Step
The purpose of the Starter Guide is not to create a long family improvement list.
Instead, finish by asking yourself two questions:
What strength do I want to protect?
and:
What is my next responsible step?
